Family Time!

I have been a little absent again lately, due to preparing for an exam which I had the other day. It went well, and when I was finished, a friend of mine gave me this three-timezone watch which he made himself to make me happy! The watches tell me which time it is at my place and the places where my dear friends Liz and Cel are. I almost cried when I received it, I was so touched by this thoughtfulness and kindness!

So this is how my family time looks right now – it is spent on Skype and Facebook chat with my friends, on the phone with my parents – and at home with my lovely little music family.

Every member of the music family now has its place in my apartment. Friedrich Ferdinand the grand piano (also dearly called Frédéric or Fred) has most of the living room for himself. As you can see, I have my little tone cards for practicing chords put up at the piano, and also some Chopin and Beethoven sheet notes for pieces I currently refresh (the beginning of Chopin’s piano concerto #2, and the 3rd movement of Beethoven’s Pathétique).

Henry the steel-string guitar resides in the guitar rack next to my wardrobe. Henry and I have a lot of fun together, strumming songs such as “California Dreaming” or “House of the Rising Sun” and singing along.

Connie the classical guitar occupies the wall next to my bed. As you can see, she is more of a lady, so she doesn’t like to be strummed so much but is happier when I practice picking stuff with her.

And here we have a new family member … Emily the little acoustic guitar! (Yes, I am aware of the fact that I have three guitars! ) The reason why I have her as well is that I also practice jazz stuff on the guitar (currently chords and standards such as “Summertime” or “Autumn Leaves”), which is easier to play on a jazz guitar. However, jazz guitars are expensive and electrified, so you also need an amplifyer. My guitar teacher found this guitar at a shop and considered it appropriate to put on jazz strings (which are polished, in contrast to usual steel strings), and he prepared it in a way that it is like an acoustic jazz guitar, and then sold it to me at a very cheap rate. So now I can practice the jazz things with Emily and have a real jazz guitar feeling.

So this was a little glimpse into my family life. How does your family life look like?
